The reason to write these reflections over the Collie Standard has been the love a breed that has changed in type enormously over the last 15-20 years.  The work is a  fight for the true classic Collie.  A Collie that still shows his sheepdog ancestry but who also combines this dignity and harmony of balance.  A breed so full of elegance that can show functional beauty without losing the desired exquisteness of head and that special captivating expression only a collie can express.

I am not sure any mortal is qualified to accurately judge the motives or abilities of others. But we can each take self-inventory to get some idea on how well we have made progress along the line. Every collie fancier, new and old, must continue to appreciate the efforts of others, profit by good advice, experiment wisely, and ever proceed in the direction of our common goal: breeding better collies.

All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

What could be more beautiful than a gorgeous "typey" animal in motion? This breathtaking creature personifies fluid liberty of motion, at the same time it displays energy-saving economy of movement.  There is a precise balace of power and grace made possible by throughly clean, correct construction.

...risk more than others think is safe;
...dream more than others think is practical;
...expect more than others think is possible.”

Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use.
